Meet Karla Gerner, a Total Reporting franchise owner, who had always been interested in starting her own business.

She, along with friend Comfort Anderson-Miller, started their own Total Reporting franchise in September. And she couldn’t be happier with the ease that has come with starting her own franchise. It’s helped her out in more ways than just one.

How did you get started with Total Reporting?

Karla had previously worked in human resources with the government and retired at the age of 52.

“The year I was retiring I started looking at franchise opportunities,” Gerner said. “But I just couldn’t find one that spoke with me and I felt like I could connect with.”

However, Gerner’s father was diagnosed with Alzheimers and soon became top priority as he required 24/7 care.

Gerner put off her search for a way to start her own business as she helped care for her father. The family soon had to bring on other people to help them as well. Gerner says it now requires about 4 people, plus her and her mom to manage her dad’s situation.

“We’ve had people looking out at my parent’s house for about 5 years now,” Gerner said. ” And we have brought people into our home who I don’t feel good about. I really got concerned this past year and started looking for criminal history checks. It was then that I found Total Reporting.”

Total Reporting was the perfect opportunity for Karla as it married two things that she was passionate about: starting her own business and making sure her dad was well-cared-for and safe.

How had the transition been into starting this franchise?

“It has been awesome. Unfortunately, my father’s condition has worsened so that is currently top priority,” Gerner said. “But that’s one of the best things about having your own business. For me, being my own boss and having that flexibility is huge.”

“The training has been exceptional overall. Right now, Comfort has been doing a lot of the work because I’ve been caring for my dad. But I can’t wait to dig in and really get started!”
